Privacy Policy

Mane ("we", "us") is operated by Parallax Limited, Flat E19, 10/F, No.52 Hung To Road, Kwun Tong, Hong Kong. This policy explains what Mane does with your data. We have tried to write it in plain language rather than legal boilerplate, because a privacy policy nobody can read protects nobody.

1. The short version

Face shape and colour season are measured entirely on your phone. Those photos are never uploaded.
Hairstyle try-on sends your photo to a cloud service, and only after you explicitly agree to it on a separate screen.
We never build a face template and never identify you from your face.
We do not sell your data, and we do not use your photos to train any model.
You can withdraw consent, and delete your data, from inside the app.

2. What we collect, and when

2.1 Processed only on your device (never uploaded)

These features do not require a network connection and do not send anything to us.

2.2 Sent to our servers (only for cloud hairstyle try-on)

Only after you agree on the consent screen:

The device identifier is a random value generated by the app on first launch. It is not your advertising ID, not your Android ID, and not linked to any account. Clearing the app's data resets it.

2.3 What we deliberately do not collect

We do not ask for or collect your name, email address, phone number, date of birth, gender, contacts, precise location, or any advertising identifier. Mane has no user accounts, and you do not need to register to use any feature.

3. Who else processes your photo

Cloud hairstyle try-on is performed by a third-party inference provider:

Your photo leaves your country when you use cloud try-on. This is why we ask for explicit, separate consent before the first cloud generation, and why that consent names these parties rather than referring vaguely to "our partners".

For users in the EEA, the UK and Switzerland, this transfer relies on your explicit consent under Article 49(1)(a) GDPR.

We do not share your photos with anyone else — not advertisers, not analytics vendors, not data brokers.

4. How long we keep things

5. Face data: what we do not do

This matters enough to state explicitly.

We do not create or store a face template, faceprint, or face embedding.
We do not perform face recognition, face matching, or identity verification.
We do not use your face to identify you across sessions or devices.

Mane measures geometric proportions (distances and angles between landmarks) and samples pixel colours, uses those numbers immediately, and discards them. Because we do not process facial data for the purpose of uniquely identifying a natural person, your photos are ordinary personal data rather than special category biometric data under GDPR Article 9.

6. Your choices and rights

Withdraw consent — Settings → Withdraw consent. Cloud generation stops immediately. On-device features keep working.
Delete your data — Settings → Delete my data.
Access, correction, portability, objection — contact us at privacy@manehair.cc. We respond within 30 days.
Complain to a regulator — if you are in the EEA or UK you may lodge a complaint with your local data protection authority.

You never have to consent. Declining only turns off cloud hairstyle try-on.

7. Children

Mane's content is suitable for teenagers, and the app is rated accordingly. However, our cloud generation provider's terms require users of that service to be 18 or older. We therefore ask you to confirm you are 18+ before the first cloud generation. On-device features (face shape, colour season) send no data anywhere and have no age restriction.

We do not knowingly collect data from children under 13 (or the applicable age in your country). If you believe a child has used cloud generation, contact privacy@manehair.cc and we will delete the associated data.

8. Security

Traffic between the app and our servers uses HTTPS.
Your original photo is never persisted server-side.
Generated images are stored with unguessable identifiers and deleted on a schedule.
Access to production systems is limited to personnel who need it.

No system is perfectly secure. If a breach affects your data, we will notify the relevant supervisory authority within 72 hours where required, and notify you where the law requires it.

9. Changes

If we change how we handle your data in a way that affects you, we will update this policy and ask for consent again where the law requires it. Material changes will be surfaced in the app, not buried in a changelog.
